Extendable Modular Moss Poles with Top and Side Watering

A moss pole should do more than simply hold a climbing plant upright. It should support aerial roots, retain moisture where the plant needs it and adapt as the plant grows.

Our extendable modular moss poles are designed around those needs. Available in two diameters—4 cm (1.6 in) and 6 cm (2.4 in)—the system allows you to build a moss pole that suits your plant, planter and available space. Add new pole segments as your plant grows, choose the most suitable base and combine top and side watering reservoirs to keep the moss evenly moist.

A Moss Pole That Grows with Your Plant

Traditional moss poles are usually made in one fixed length. Once the plant reaches the top, the entire support may need to be replaced or extended using improvised solutions.

Our modular design makes extending the pole simple. Additional segments can be attached whenever more height is needed, allowing the same pole to support your plant through several stages of growth.

You can choose between two types of pole segments:

• Open pole segments provide maximum access to the moss and plenty of openings for aerial roots.
• Half-closed pole segments help the moss retain moisture for longer, making them especially useful toward the bottom of the pole.

For improved moisture retention, we recommend placing half-closed sections near the bottom and using a slow-watering reservoir at the top.

Top-Watering Options

The top of the moss pole can be finished with either a small cap or a slow-watering reservoir.

Small Cap

The small cap includes an opening that allows you to pour water directly into the moss pole. It provides a neat finish but does not store water, so the water passes through immediately.

This option is suitable when you prefer to water the moss manually and monitor it closely.

Slow-Watering Reservoirs

The slow-watering reservoirs hold water and gradually release it into the moss below. They are available in two capacities:

• 200 ml (6.8 oz)
• 350 ml (11.8 oz)

Each reservoir includes a removable cap, making it easy to refill while reducing evaporation and helping to keep debris out of the water.

Rather than pouring a large amount of water through the pole at once, the reservoir distributes it gradually. This gives the moss more time to absorb the moisture and helps reduce how frequently the pole needs to be watered.

Side Watering for Taller Moss Poles

Watering only from the top may not be enough for very tall modular poles. The upper moss can absorb much of the water before it reaches the lower sections, particularly when the pole contains several extensions.

The optional side watering container solves this problem by introducing water farther down the pole. It is installed at the connection between two segments and holds approximately 100 ml (3.38 oz).

Water is slowly directed into the moss through the lower opening of the container, helping hydrate the lower sections more effectively. Multiple side containers can be placed at different heights on an especially tall setup.

This combination of top and side watering is the key benefit of the modular system. It helps maintain more even moisture from the top of the pole to the bottom, instead of leaving the lower moss dry.

Choose the Right Base

Three base options are available, allowing the moss pole to work with different planter shapes and depths.

Stake Base

The stake base is 12 cm (4.7 in) tall and pushes directly into the substrate. It is a compact option that works particularly well in planters with limited surface area or relatively shallow soil.

Medium Flat Base

The medium flat base measures:

• Height: 12 cm (4.7 in)
• Base diameter: 9 cm (3.5 in)

The circular base sits underneath the substrate and provides a broader foundation than the stake base.

Large Flat Base

The large flat base measures:

• Height: 15 cm (5.9 in)
• Base diameter: 12 cm (4.7 in)

This is the most stable option for tall poles, large climbing plants and wider or deeper planters. The broad perforated platform can be covered with substrate, helping anchor the pole securely inside the pot.

Honeycomb Openings Encourage Root Attachment

The honeycomb structure gives aerial roots multiple openings through which they can enter the moss. As the roots grow into the pole, they gain access to moisture and additional support.

The openings also make it easier to:

• Fill the pole with moss
• Check moisture levels
• Guide aerial roots toward the moss
• Refill or adjust the moss when necessary
• Attach stems using the included plant clips

Each clip set contains five clips in mixed sizes, allowing thinner and thicker stems to be secured without tying them tightly against the pole.

Easy Snap-Fit Assembly

The modular parts connect using threaded joints, allowing for easy and secure assembly, filling with moss, and installation in the planter.

You can build the complete moss pole before placing it in the planter or assemble it section by section around an established plant. When the plant needs additional support, another compatible segment can be added to the top.

Only one top component—the small cap, 200 ml reservoir or 350 ml reservoir—is used on the topmost pole.

Durable PETG Construction

The moss pole components are 3D printed in PETG, a material selected for its combination of strength, flexibility and moisture resistance.

The finished pole is strong enough to support climbing plants while remaining lightweight and easy to handle. Unlike coco coir poles, the outer structure does not gradually unravel or shed loose fibres around the planter.

The modular shell can also be reused. When repotting the plant, the sections can be separated, cleaned and assembled again with fresh moss.
